[HomeBrew] HF/VHF Antenna Tuner and SWR meter

First let me "second the motion" that it is impractical to combine an HF
tuner and VHF tuner for the aforementioned reasons. The ARRL Handbook and
some editions of the ARRL Antenna book give designs for six and two meter
transmatches. These are for unbalanced to balanced lines. I would not
attempt a VHF transmatch on a coax line. The losses would be too high. If
you have 300 ohm twinlead to the antenna, then you have a practical
application for a transmatch.
The Lew McCoy "monimatch" SWR meter with two pickup wires parallel to the
center conductor will work up to 2 meters. I've never tried it on 70 cm.
Actually, the higher you go in frequency the more sensitive it gets.
Let me know if you don't have these references.
Very 73,
