This report covers Mid-July to Mid-Aug 2011

Samuel A. Moore, NH6CH, passed away at age 100 years young on June 25, 2011.
He retired from Kaiser Permanente Cement Corp in 1970. He sailed his
self-built 50’ ketch to Kona and stayed. He was an early member of what
later became Kona ARS.

We are sad to report the passing of Diane Stone, KH6EXR, on July 21, 2011.
Her husband Ted, K6HI said she had been fighting cancer for 2½ years. She
and Ted were longtime members of the Kona ARS.

The solar panels, batteries and charge controller were stolen from the
Hualalai repeater. This is an ongoing story. We expect to have details in
the near future. As of now the 147.16 machine will be off the air for an
extended period.

On August 10, The FCC announced that Amateur Radio vanity call signs cost
will go from$13.30 to $14.20 effective September 9, 2011. The vanity call
sign regulatory fee is payable not only when applying for a new vanity call
sign, but also upon renewing a vanity call sign for a new term.

The Emergency Amateur Radio held an ARRL approved Hamfest in Honolulu on
Saturday August 6th at the Fleet Reserve Association building. It was very
successful. (This is the EARC normal meeting place.) Wayne, KH6MEI,
reports the one problem was left over junk and equipment was left in the
facility trash bins. Trash pick-up is a service that they have to pay for.
