Fellow amateur radio operators,

State and Oahu Civil Defense RACES will be conducting the annual Makani
Pahili hurricane emergency communications test net on Thursday evening,
May 18 from 7:00 - 8:30 pm.

This year's scenario simulates the alert pattern experienced in
Hurricane Iniki. Tonight, we get word that a local hurricane has turned
course and impact the islands on Thursday morning. Progressive damage
occurs, and winds subside by 7:00 pm Thursday night allowing for local
damage assessment to begin. Our net starts at 7:00 pm to pick up
simulated traffic. Please be sure to begin and end messages with the
words "this is a test message".

Net operations will start on 7.088, 146.88 and 147.06 Mhz. The
inter-island RACES repeater system will simulate an outage of the
repeater links to simulate damage from the hurricane. Stations are
encouraged to find activity on APRS, Oahu Simplex, emergency repeaters
and other frequencies, and exercise message handling.

At 8:00 pm, the Oahu APRS network will simulate a peak usage test to
determine the practical limits to APRS capacity in metro Honolulu.
