The light will stay lit for the duration set in the message.  If you
returned home after the duration, the light will be out.

The duration is preset ahead of time and not on a per-incident basis.  (It
is set on a per incident *type* but again, it's preset and the current
situation is not taken into account in figuring out the duration.)

One of the big surprises in S.A.M.E. is "duration" is really a
"time-to-live" field to determine for how long stations should be "rippling"
the message through their system.  Any station receiving the message after
the message expired will not forward it.

In other words, "duration" has absolutely nothing to do with the expect
duration of the threat.  I'm not sure that Radio Shack understood that when
they programmed in their "auto cancel" feature.

There is no cancellation message.  Conceivably, they might send a follow up
alert announcing the cancellation.  But that's another event, not something
that would automatically cancel the first alert.

Did anyone's NOAA SAME WX radio get activated during
today's tsunami watch? I came home expecting to see
the WATCH light lit on my WX radio, but it showed
nothing. I'm wondering if the NWS is able to cancel
the watch status within the radio itself with one of
their digital bursts. I was under the impression that
the light would stay lit once it was activated, even
if the watch was cancelled.
