MEDIA ADVISORY - PRESS CONFERENCE

OAHU CIVIL DEFENSE RECEIVES EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT FROM PEARLRIDGE CENTER
Oahu Civil Defense Agency will hold a press conference on Thursday, December 4, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Alapai Express Bus Terminal to announce Pearlridge Centers $30,000.00 emergency communications donation.
The donation, the result of a program entitled, Building a Better Community, Together utilized funds raised through fares collected from Pearlridge Centers Skycab Monorail. Previous funds had provided equipment donations to the Honolulu Police Department, Honolulu Fire Department, and Honolulu Emergency Services.
The Oahu Civil Defense Agency communications package consists of eight
M/A-Com P7100 portable radios with specialized programming, and accessories including spare batteries, speaker microphones, and rapid chargers.
The equipment will greatly expand the agencys daily and disaster response communications.
In addition, all eight radios can be integrated into multi-agency communications with City, State, and Federal Government entities. This is a key emergency response component in the event of a terrorist attack on the City and County of Honolulu.
Pearlridge Centers donation is a fine example of business and Government partnering together towards a common goal, said Doug Aton, Administrator for Oahu Civil Defense.
Media wishing to cover this event are asked to report to the Alapai Express Bus Terminal parking area on the corner of King and Alapai Streets at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2003.
In the event of inclement weather, the press conference will be relocated to the Oahu Civil Defense Agency Emergency Operations Center in the basement of the Honolulu Municipal Building at 650 South King Street.
A demonstration of the new communications equipment will be conducted immediately following the press conference.
