Hi Ted....I have had a for a long time 3K-A and am pretty familiar with it.
It is similar to your 2KD Classic.
Do the tube plates change color?
Has the unit been on the same band for a long while?
If so, try exercising the band switch...of course remove drive first.
I assume you are doing this on a dummy load??
If not, I suggest you try this.
You may also have a shorted or open coax......check the simple stuff first.
I have had this 3K-A since 77' and I've never had a problem....they are
stout!

Subject: [Henry] Sick 2KD Classic
My 2KD is acting up. When I key it with the exciter I get no output. Turning
the Load and Tune controls do not affect the meters. Depending on input
power the plate and grid meters work fine. But no output.
Thinking it could be the relays, I swapped them for each other. No effect.
Measured 18 volts DC at the relay socket in the rear. Relays seem to key but
can't tell if both are firing. According to the schematic the imput realy is
working but not the output relay.
Any suggestions? Unit worked well up to now. New tubes etc.
Oh, symptom before this was while talking, output would drop to zero and
plate meter stuck at 400 ma. Turning off the amp reset everything. Thought
it was a grid to filiment short so replaced tubes with known good ones. No
luck.
Tnx for any help.
Ted, N6IIU
p.s. give me a phone number and I will call you if that would work better.
