You didn't say which Icom, but most all of them require (as in mandatory) a
keying circuit between the Icom and the linear. Some amplifiers are OK, but
most of the older ones draw way too much current for the 20 ma. capability
of the Icom send circuit. The usual result is to fry the Icom.
