It depends: you can do either. On 80 and 40, I prefer to key both so I can benefit from the sort of QSK mode.Usually, there isn't much, if any chirp on those two bands.On higher frequencies, I prefer to let the VFO run continuously and key only the transmitter.It depends on the quality of the resulting signal.The way the inteconnecting cable is normally wired, you can only key both simultaneously, I believe.But maybe I am thinking of when I am using the VF-1.
