[Heathkit] Home brew HP-23 supply?

I just recently came across some old heath equipment, the main piece is a HW-101 and power supply.Its the power supply that is interesting. It is physically the size of a hp-23 series supply, but is completely home brew and the case has no ventilation,  it is completely closed.. This setup had been in use for many years so i assume it worked at one time. I haven't had time to do much with it, i did take the side cover off to look inside. It has 6 (if i remember right) plug in caps inside. I've never seen a power supply of this type with plug in caps. The p/s has just the power cord, fuse and octal socket on it, no bias control.Just wondering if anyone has come across anything like this. There was a schematic and limited information about it included with the 101 documentation. ThanksTimNZ8J
