[Heathkit] Stuck pot shaft lubrication

I recently saw where a pot refurbishment included squirting a drop or two of 10W-30 SYNTHETIC motor oil directly into the wiped surface - as well as at the shaft/collar point - of the pot as an effective noise-reducing lubricant . Intuitively, this does not sound proper, but I was interested in other opinions.

I've always used tuner cleaner or de-oxit to date. Synthetic 10W-30 sure would be cheaper after the initial $5.00 per quart expense, assuming you don't already put this stuff in your beloved classic, where you cold "save out" a "lifetime supply" syringe-full.
