OK, anyone out there own a Heathkit model GD-1190 or GD-1290 metal detector?
I built the 1290 back in the 80s when they came out. It was pretty sophisticated for it's time. It is a VLF/TR style. The oscillator runs at 7.2 KHz, just like some $1K unit today.... It worked very well. Ex got it. I kept the manual.
Anyway, I purchased a non-working 1290 on eBay for cheap, since I already had the manual. I doubt the original builder ever got it working, due to a bunch of cold solder joints, etc. It's 'almost' working 100%, but it's been a struggle. Luckily, all the semiconductors are still available, and cheap!
The 1190 had a couple of issues, but I finally got it going.

Just wanted to share stories with another owner.....
