Hello Howie,

I laughed out loud at the cheapskate remark, but it is true that it's a bit
risky to be that frank in a retail commercial situation.

I hope your are so successful that you become the next Heathkit--with tube
gear of course! But practice the art of staying small so that everybody
involved still cares about the business.

I've been self employed in small business for more than 50 years--6 failures
and 6 successes. No lawyer or CPA I ever met had any entrepreneurial sense.
They were all risk avoiders.

So, pay attention to your bookkeeping, that being the navigation system of
your business, and make course corrections as soon as you need to.
Miscellaneous little costs can really nibble away at your profits.

My wife and I have helped some 60 or so people get started in self
employment, and they almost all charged Too Little for their goods or
services. A typical small business works on about a 33% gross profit margin.
Offer a 10% discount on your product, and you have reduced your margin by
almost a third!

If you want to have a "land line QSO" about small business management, feel
free to do it on my nickel:
