Hi Brian,

I have both here. Overall the Apache is a newer, nicer radio. It looks
nicer. It's performance is nicer. Some of the features of the Apache can
be added to the DX-100. If you do enough of that you won't really have a
DX-100 any more. You might have an Apache with 160 meters and 11 meters
and a gray paint job.

The DX-100 has 160 meters and the Apache doesn't. Adding 160 to the
Apache is likely more of a project than adding some of the features in
the Apache to a DX-100. If 160 meters is on your list of favorites get
the DX-100 (and ignore the 11 meter band). The Apache has several
convenience features but the main feature is it already accommodates an
SSB adapter by design. If 160 meters is not on your list get the Apache.
Watch out for brittle, cracked frequency dial parts in either.
Replacement parts are available for both dials.

I have offered my Apache for sale but the cost of shipping has been the
deal breaker. Apparently I am going to have both of those in my estate
sale or maybe in the landfill. Both of those radios are quite heavy -
about a pound per watt (output)! Built-in power supplies and the
modulation iron push the weight right up there.
