My experience parallels that of both you gentlemen.  I had the DX-35 as my 
first novice rig in mid 1972, tranny went up in smoke while grabbing a quick 
supper to get back on 15m.  Replaced that with a DX-40, same story, but I 
was in the shack when that one went up in smoke.  My "mentor" suggested a 
tube TV transformer he had, and the problem was solved.  I passed that 
DX-40, with the "new" tranny on to another novice and it may well still be 
working.  The wife still puts up with me AFTER all that, hi.

Maybe you can get it rewound a bit heavier, Bill??
