I have a Heathkit IM-18 and my father's V-7A that have the "solid state"
Heathkit mod. I have always found them to be as drifty as the original
vacuum tubes. You might come across one of these meters at a hamfest that
has the mod.

IM-8-1 Solid State vacuum tube replacements.
A set of two metal cans that plug
into the 6AL5 and 12AU7 tube sockets and
turn the Heathkit VTVMs (starting with the
V-7) into a solid state voltmeter with instant
on capability. The 12AU7 plug-in uses four
FETs and the 6AL5 plug-in uses two special
silicon diodes. (IM-8-1 $17.95 - 1976).

Hi Lee. I collect older test equipment. I have several FET multimeters from
different companies. They were very popular when FETs were 'new'.
Unfortunately, some of the meters use 'hand selected' FETs which are now
made of unobtanium.
One of my favorites right now, is a multimeter that was sold by Sears. It
has a beautiful taut-band meter (with mirror for parallax correction) and it
also has a nice digital display. Not cheap, but worth the $$$$.
