Great story, Bob.

Our cable company came out last week and redid their cabling. I was very
impressed with the quality of cable, and connectors, that they used. I
suspect that between HDTV and higher broadband Internet, they're finding
better cabling is cheaper in the long run.

That is also true.

However, when I am running AM, as I was at the time with a BC-610, I did
NOT get into my own.

This person's portable phone was apparently some cheap "Chinese" garbage.

It has been a VERY long time, but I blanked out the neighborhood cable
TV system. This goes back to the first year I was licensed. What made
it even more weird, was that my OWN TV located less than six feet away,
was NOT affected!

It happened to be a quirk caused by the Cable company replacing the drop
to my QTH with cable that had a total of three drain wires for ground.

I went through everything I could. Then I called and asked to speak
with their Chief Engineer.

He and a team came out to my house. They sniffed the shack,, and then
the Chief went up in a bucket to the distribution amp on the pole.

He had me once again light up. While he was taking readings, he
disconnected MY drop. All the signal went away.

It turns out that they had put in that garbage cable, managed to
parallel one half of MY dipole. The Chief took out a pocket knife,
sliced off the jacket of my drop. He immediately had a rapid discussion
with his team, and sent them scurrying to get some REAL shielded cable
on site IMMEDIATELY!

All the problems went away.
