Both the TX-1 Apache and the RX-1 Mohawk came out in 1958. I had several friends when I lived in northwestern Indiana that bought them in the 2nd half of 1958. Since the town was only 35 miles from the Heath plant in St. Joseph, Michigan (the mailing address was Benton Harbor but the plant was in St. Joseph on Hilltop Road, south of Benton Harbor) people would drive up to the plant, purchase the radio, and bring it home, thus saving the shipping charges.

My first contact in May 1959 as a Novice Class was made using K9BPV's Apache with crystal control and cut back to 75 watts input.

The reason that I chose to keep what I have kept, and will continue to use, *IS* because the *NEWEST* piece of equipment was made/ordered in 1951!

I do NOT think the TX-1 NOR the RX-1 are THAT old! Especially when the Heathkit manual is dated 1960.
