[Heathkit] Harbor Freight Sale - Little red DMM (Greg Mijal)

I have been "toying" with the idea of using them as plate current and grid current meters in a linear amplifier. If you read the voltage across like a 1 ohm or 10 ohm resistor in series with the load you will get a voltage reading that can be directly interpreted in mA. Also, if you construct a resistive divider, you can read plate voltage by multiplying the reading on the meter by 10.

A couple of times a year, Harbor Freight drops the sale price down to like $1.99 each. I have several of the meters and they definitely are "handy" to keep in the automobile, tool box, etc. If something happens to one of them, the cost was so cheap that you just throw it away.

A few years back, there was an article in QST about a HAM who had converted a GE brand DVM to an SWR device, or power or something like that.

Has anyone modified one of the Harbor Freight cheapies to something useful for RF or QRP or whatever they would care to share? I'd be interested, as I'm sure others would be.  At $3, if you chop one up for extra plugs or switches, no big deal, eh?
