[Heathkit] sb100 dial help

Hi Ronnie,

The dial drive is, IMHO, the Achille's Heal of an otherwise great set-up like the Heath "SB" line...you're not alone in your dial woes, believe me...!

It's been many years since I did any re-adjustments in that regard, but it seems to me you first had to remove the knob for the LMO, then loosen ever-so-slightly the large nut holding the shaft bearing in place that connects the knob to the dial itself...

If I recall correctly, you then have to move the bearing up / down, until such time as some resistance is felt when in the downward movement, indicating that the flange of the dial drive has positively engaged with the inside of the dial itself. When it has, carefully re-tighten the panel bearing nut, & re-install the knob...

Make a few turns with it: if it's loose-feeling & fails to drive the dial 100% of the time, repeat the process---only this time push down on the bearing ever-so-slightly, to get a more positive engagement. If there's an inordinate amount of effort needed to turn the knob/dial---or if it just plain feels too tight---raise the bearing up a tad, re-tighten, then check again.

It CAN be a tedious process, certainly not aided & abetted by a dial that may well have seen better days...but it sounds like yours is a "cherry pick" in terms of condition, so it may only need VERY minor tweaking to get it right again...

I can rock the knob back and forth and it will catch again and and start turning again. It doesn't do it in the same spot.
