Well, on the 610 schematic I have, the Ne bulb is _only_ a pilot lamp.
It doesn't serve any other purpose. You could put any 120VAC pilot
lamp in there and drive it in parallel with the primary, or you could
put back in a Ne lamp, or you could replace it with a low power 6.3V
pilot lamp (like a #47) and run it off of the 6.3VAC winding driving
the tubes other than the 3RP1.

In the 610 the sweep voltage is generated by a multivibrator (V3A/B)
in the schematic I have.
