Gang,

Thanks again for the info.  I fear I have set off a wild goose chase because
I made a typo in my original post, deep regrets the unit is a 610, not 620.
The 610 seems to have only one neon bulb, that is the pilot light, but the
consensus opinion seems to be that it is doing double duty as pilot lamp and
part of a relaxation oscillator.  Tomorrow I will restore the pilot circuit
to its original configuration and see what happens.

Once again, I am sorry to have misled anyone by my typo.  Thanks to the many
who responded.  This is a great group.
