In the process of checking the function switch I found a 'arcing' signal (no scope, just a VTVM) on the terminals that go back to the trans. for cutting it on and off (black & blue wires). I did some wire unhooking/jumpering/soldering, etc on the term. strip, where these leads connect to the trans. primary (plus there are two .002/1kv line bypass caps) and during that process, the noise stopped. While I'm holding my breath (don't expect the problem to be fixed this easy), I will replace the term. strip and maybe the .002/1kv line bypass caps (if I have them in stock). I also noticed when unsoldering a term. on the strip, a big piece of 'dry' looking solder fell off. Could have been a cold solder blob. I'll make these minor updates and run it a while and let you all know later how it turns out. I've got some more Heathkit adventures waiting in the 'round-to-it' pile, so who knows what challenges they will bring up. Many tnx for all the great suggestions, which, I am saving for the future projects.
