[Heathkit] HW-101 Question

Have you replaced the final amplifier tubes lately? If so, did you use 6146B/8298A or 6146W tubes?  The Heath HW-101 does not generally "like" the 6146B series of tubes.

Also, tighten EVERY machine screw and nut in the unit.  All of the grounds in the unit are made through these and they definitely work loose and/or become corroded over the years.  Doing this "fixes" about 90% of the "strange" problems that I run into on boat anchor equipment.

Check the diodes in the balanced modulator, they do tend to go bad over the years.
