[Heathkit] audio on sb-303

Iam finishing work on a sb-303,all is well ,except for the audio. The audio is tinny and very irritating.Will give you a headache in a coupla of minutes. I changed from the sb-600 to another speaker,same problem. I searched all the old archives ,can't find any thing on this problem. Since this is my first 303 ,I haven't anything to compare against. Is there a source of info covering the 303/401 gear anywhere out there? Or even heathkit in general.
