[Heathkit] FS - "Radios by Hallicrafters" by Chuck Dachis

Hi Carl,

You are correct. Chuck Dachis had also acquired some additional data as well
as photos of items he lacked in the first edition. He had no intention of
making the book an on going thing. Such as release another one every other
year etc.

Chuck had to pay for the printing of the book himself. These specialized
Amateur Radio books, and most other hobby publications, are out of the
authors pocket! Not paid for by a major publishing house! It would not have
been cost effective, let alone practical, to revise and/or expand the first
release, have it printed again and hope to recover his investment for both
releases!

Instead he combined all of the first release with all of the new material he
had acquired and released the second version of the book. It 'might' be more
correct to call the "second edition" the rerelease of the expanded first
edition.

The amount of work that Chuck Dachis did to acquire, restore, research and
document the equipment that the Hallicrafters Co. made was an extraordinary
one! Unlike the "real world of publishing" the author of a specialized book
such as "Radios By Hallicrafters" or "The Hallicrafters Story", and
multitudes more, seldom break even, let alone make a profit. It is a work of
love, not money that motivates them to do what they do.

I applaud, and thank them all, for their priceless contributions to history
and Amateur Radio.
