Here's the Heath Museum write up on the Single Banders :

http://www.heathkit-museum.com/ham/hvmhw-12-22-32.shtml

Some differences I notice about the older models vs. the -A suffix models...

The original has a bezel around the tuning dial. The -A has a painted front
like the HW-100.

The original has gray HR / DX style knobs. The -A has the dark green SB type
knobs.

The original doesn't have LSB / USB selection. The -A does.

The original has the mike connection in the rear and separate AF / RF gain
controls on the front panel. The -A has the mike jack on the front and a
concentric AF / RF control.

The tube compliment is the same 14 tubes for both, so I suspect not much
else is different.
