[Heathkit] SB series cabinet paint

There are no less than 5 different shades of green that Heath used on the SB-Line cabinets. What color does not seem to depend on time frame. For example, you could purchase an SB-301, SB-401, SB-600, SB-200, and an SB-620 at the same time and get every unit with a different color cabinet. Also, there were 3 different shades of green used on the front panels. Out of the 5 units listed above it was possible to get units with all 3 different colored front panels.

I have matched the light gray-green paint that was used on a number of the SB-Line cabinets (and was used on all SB-104 units) which, in my opinion, is the best looking of all 5 colors. You can obtain this formula by going to

and then scrolling down to the heading "Articles". The 8th link down is entitled "Boat Anchor Paint Formulas". Download the article and therein you will find the Sherwin-Williams formula for the SB-Line paint listed. Although the formula was developed by Sherwin-Williams just about any paint store or home improvement center can work from the formula and produce the correct color paint.

Over the years I have acquired equipment with all 5 cabinet colors and all 3 front panel colors. With the exception of the panel on the SB-600 it requires a complete re-silkscreening to repaint the panels with a single color. However, I have repainted all of my cabinets with the light gray-green color and now they all match.

I've got a very nice SB-220 amp that need the cabinet repainted. Could someone help me find a source for the correct color paint or a new cabinet??
