Hi, folks,
I've been a ham around 45 years (mostly as K3MXO) and have been an
exclusive surplus & homebrew person. However, the Heathkit bug has
been nibbling my left forelobe (The right one's long gone.) and I'm
considering something in the HW/SB-10x line to play with. While I
have more than a little experience with those semiconductor
thingamabobs, I'm more comfortable with the warm cheery glow from
hollow state devices so I can handle whatever happens my way in the
future. My primary operating location will be the back of a Jeep (or
some other vehicle at a future date) due to living in an RF choke so
there is an ample supply of 12vdc although an AC supply would probably
be convenient for benchwork. The primary operating mode for EARC will
be 80 & 40m SSB while for jus' plain being a ham will be CW, SSB or
RTTY on whatever band will get me off this rock using an inverted V or
a dipole set up where ever I can find space.
In watching eBay for a while, I've noticed a range of prices which
makes any decision as to what's reasonable for the different models
difficult to judge. This is compounded by the fact that I don't know
that much about the different models except that the HW-101 was and
continues to be a solid workhorse.
Thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Michael, WH7HG
