[Heathkit] SB-102 and heterodyne oscillator crystals.

Boy! The basket-case SB-102 I have been working on for the last little
bit is certainly interesting: when I try to calibrate the dial, I find that on
80 the fiducial is way over against the right stop, and on the 28 Mhz,
and 29 Mhz segments, it is way over against the left stop.
I got out my frequency counter and checked the heterodyne oscillator
crystal frequencies. They came up like this:
80 meters -7Khz
40 meters -5 Khz
20 meters -4 Khz
15 meters -9Khz
28 +/-0Khz
28.5 -8Khz
29 +/-0Khz
29.5 -11Khz
I figure that if I were able to get all the heterodyne oscillator frequencies
to be right on, the fiducial should sit in the same place for each band,
but I haven't figured out how to raise the crystal frequencies by more
than a few hertz by adding capacitance in series with each crystal.
I suppose what I SHOULD do is add capacitance in parallel to all those
crystals to bring them ALL to -11Khz. At least that way they would all be
off by the same amount.
Then realign the VFO.
It seems to me that as the Heathkit transceivers became more popular,
the quality of some of the parts went way down.
