[Heathkit] Heathkit SB Essay

When I was around 20 (1976) I built an SB-104 with 400 Hz CW filter and
noise blanker and the matching Speaker/Power Supply and later the "A"
upgrade. I still have it, and over the years added (built by others) the
matching VFO, Station Console, Station Monitor, and electronic paddle keyer.
If I could find one the the solid state amplifiers at a good price (bum tube
okay) I would get it to round off the collection.

At the time it was the first digitally tuned all solid state transceiver and
had a great wow factor. I stayed up late every night, got it together in a
week, and it worked from the git-go. Yes it could have been better but it
was a stretch to pay for it working the service bench part time at the
commercial radio shop.

Ahh the smell of phenolic burning...
