Carl..

On the 1N191, my book shows it to be 90PRV at 5Ma. It is a germanium
device so I would not use a 1N4148/914 in place of it as may not con-
duct on the low end of signal, they are silicon, very good at switching but
not good detectors.

I would use a 1N270, readily available, rated at 80PRV, 200Ma. Only
10V lower rating a a lot more current. It is Germanium.

Data from EDN Semicondutor guide.

Subject: [Heathkit] SB-610 Germanium Diode Question

In the SB-610 Monitor Scope there is a 1N191 Germanium Diode which is rated
at 90 Volts at 500Ma. The particular Diode is hard to find fora replacement.
Looking over simular ones i see the 1N4148 Diode which is rated at 100
Volts, but at 200Ma which is less that the 1N191. Is the 1N4148 a good
replacement or should i look for a higher rated Ma Diode ? Thanks & Merry
Christmas Happy New Year.Carl, k4zrd
