what I did.

Yes. Done.
However, in our case, the water MAIN is plastic all the way
from the street to three feet inside the house. There is NO
metal piping connected directly to the earth anywhere in our
home. Nonetheless, our panel IS bonded to the water-piping
system where that is metal. Where it stops being metal, and
continues as plastic, I suppose the water is carrying the
ground, since it is full of iron here. :-)
