Duane,
Sorry to contradict a native of the Wolverine State, but both St. Joseph
and Benton Harbor are in Berrien County Michigan.
Heathkit kept the Benton Harbor address, but the operations were
actually in St. Joseph. The old Heathkit facility at 211 Hilltop Road is
now a redevelopment project by the city of St. Joseph. I'll paste in the

Tenants include a company that does PC board assembly, a computer center
for seniors, and even some professional offices, but I'm sure it's
nowhere near full.
Being right on the shore of Lake Michigan, it's in a prime real estate
area. When I prowled around a few years ago I thought St. Joseph was a
nice lakeside community with a good selection of homes and small town
atmosphere. Benton Harbor may be a different story, but Heath hasn't had
more than a PO box there for years. A far bigger economic impact has
been Whirlpool Corp. which has it's world headquarters there, but like
most in the white goods business, they've been downsizing their US
operations lately.
