I think the others have covered it quite well.

My $0.02 follows:

Unless the piece is NIB or NOS, looks completely new, and has never 
been on the air, then it is not really a collectors piece.

Restoring radios which don't work up to spec can only enhance their 
value to those of us who love to use this gear, but cannot afford to 
simply have some pretty things to look at.
