[Heathkit] Paint gun for boat anchors

I pulled this one from behind the desk to see if it had any pedigree. It is
a Luxfer Beverage Cylinders. It doesn't have a siphon tube so all you get
is gas. It is 28" tall and 8" in diameter and weights about 30 pounds so it
doesn't take up much room. It holds 20 pounds of CO2 at a service pressure
of 1800 PSI so it doesn't get refilled except every few years. New they
sell for about US$122.00 - http://www.californiacylinder.com/catalog.html -
and you will need a regulator.
I use a Bagder hobby airbrush for area painting (a better quality metal body
one - don't use the $19.95 special). I also have a Paasche AB-Turbo but
that is only good for fine work.

The standard CO2 can (often referred to as an aircan) sold for airbrushes is
9oz. It doesnt take long to exhaust them.
Paint ball gun CO2 cans are 20oz and adaptors are available for airbrush
hose threads. They are also refillable.

FWIW - I use an airbrush and a CO2 tank like is used for soft drink mixes.
I'm not sure what a tank costs anymore (this one dates back a couple
decades) but refills are very cheap at an industrial gas supply. No
compressor noise. It takes a little more time to paint a panel but then I
have the advantage of fine adjustment of droplet size, rate, and mix. And I
am not limited to to the colors in a spray can.
One handy thing that I found when painting aluminum is direct-to-metal
paints. They can be custom mixed and adhere well. YMMV
