Mike,
Galaxy made transceivers from the mid-60s through the 70s. They're all
modelled after Drake's line in compactness and general look (tuning knob
off to one side: left on Galaxy, right on Drake, no politics implied
however ;-). I wouldn't call them leading edge but rather were solid
rigs made primarily for SSB. The 550 is an updated version of the
earlier models such as the Galaxy V.
They're well worth restoring (as opposed to re-storing), especially if
the cabinet is in fairly good shape. Having the matching PS and VFO
makes it even more worthwhile as a set. Certainly do not scrap it.
