I haven't heard anything like that myself. My 104A was in pristine condition
and looked like it had been assembled by an EE. Even has the CW filter and a
nicely done RIT mod.

I haven't done a thorough comparison, but the obvious similarities are the
digital readout, the daughtercard/motherboard construction, and (IIRC) the PA
unit in the rear right corner of the rig.

I've had my TR7 for 20 years, it's a keeper. Just recently finished pimping
it out with a blue LED frequency display and blue LED pilot lamps. Even the
ALC LED is blue. Sitting next to it, the unmodified RV7 looks positively
greenish, even with new blue filter material. I just wish Mike Elliot could
have seen it....

Still looking for a strip of smoke gray plastic to change the red of the
SB104A to something a little more pleasing to my eyes (blue probably wouldn't
look right....).
