Paul,

Two years ago I revived my own HW-100 that had been sitting idle for 
about 20 years.  It was pretty rough and dirty but came back to life 
without very much trouble.  If your '101 is in good physical shape and 
was working before being put in storage, it shouldn't be too hard to get 
it on the air.   Can you describe the "film" on the boards?  Most of 
them I've seen look like they are filmy but actually just develop this 
look after being subjected to the heat of normal operation over a period 
of years.  Mostly it's just a dust layer that has stuck to the surface.  
If it's residue from smoking, that's another matter entirely.

I recommend propping it up on one side and simply cleaning off the 
insides with a dry paint brush and a vacuum cleaner.  Then make sure all 
the tubes are seated properly, turn it on, and start troubleshooting.  
You might find that you don't have to.
