[Heathkit] Heathkits: Rebuild or Homebrew?

Many years ago I scratch built the original Heath ignition scope (the tubed 
version, not the solid state versions).  All I purchased from Heath was the 
pickup cable.  It actually worked great and I ended up selling it at a swap meet 
years later.  I often wondered if it is still in use.

The only Heathkit I ever built was their high end ignition scope that used a 
12" CRT.  Found it at a swap meet for $100 in the sealed box (this was, 
obviously, before the unbuilt kits became a collector's item).  When Heath was in 
business I couldn't afford their kits, so I jumped at the chance to finally 
build one.  Still have that scope and still working fine.
