I can't remember the exact details of how this happened, probably 
"operator error" on my part, but one or both of the IF "coils" was burned 
so that it/they no longer can tune to the proper IF frequency and there 
is severe signal loss through it/them.

The only way to repair them would be to rewind the coils, and the wire 
is too small, and my eyes are too old to accomplish that easily.
