[Heathkit] Rectifier tubes

I'm resurrecting my IO-18 Scope, and IG-72 Audio Generator.
Both have bad retifier tubes.  IO-18 has 1V2, the IG-72 has a 6X4.

Has anyone had success replacing rectifier tubes with silicon diodes, and using
a droping resistor to compensate for the lower volage drop than the tubes.

I have no idea what value resistors to use.
