As an aH6,I'm guessing it's just habit.
Gang, it's not just that Hawai'i and Alaska are U.S. States and
have senators and can vote in the presidential election, the U.S.
Postal service does not charge a premium for delivery.
Although, from W6-land, they probably should offer a discount.
It's much cheaper to put a boatanchor on a boat and ship it to
Hawai'i than it is to put it on a truck or train and ship to, say,
chattanooga.
Back to Heathkit... I received my SB-104A LED display upgrade from
the Heathkit Shop this weekend. It's a beautiful board,
doublesided, glass expoxy, screened, with plated through holes.
I got it because I saw a note on their website that they weren't
too many kits left. My gas-discharge display is still working
fine (except for the 16.667 11 volt counter problem)
Heathkit Shoppe, fast ship. highly recommended.
I also received the boatanchor QSK keyer kit from RadioAdventures.
Lots of value there. Again, good quality merchandise, nice looking
board, highly recommended although RadioAdventures was a little
slow to ship, what, 3 weeks? Doesn't bother me as I have a ton of
projects backed up here.
Here's the plan. I have a very clean but dead DX-60, the good one,
not the A or B model. The DX-60 original is the one to get
because it has that incredible cast bezel on the meter. At 16
years old, I built one in 1963. I sold it for $40 to get a used
HT-37 for $200. What a mistake, I shoulda gotten the Heathkit
mobile SSB transmitter kit. It was less than the HT-37.
Step one, build a WA6OTP PTO kit.
Fix the DX-60.
Build the RadioAdventures QSK TR switch and keyer, integrate it
with an SB-303.
90 watts on 40, PTO controlled, QSK and an IAMBIC-B keyer, what
fun.
But before I do that, I'll be recapping the electrolytics in my
radios.
