The station that started it all by asking me to listen
to his 10 meter SSB signal has found a WAV file that
sounds virtually identical. That is the signal from
the GPS satellites. I'll try to put it up on my
websites later this evening so that people can compare
it. Also, he found a reference of an identical signal
on the same frequency back in December of 2003 that
was heard all over the country.

I "blame" him since I would not have been listening to
that part of 10 meters had he not asked me to listen.
He is only 5 blocks away but was having some problems
with one of his rigs. I chose 28.600 because 28.5 to
28.7 MHz are in all of my Collins S-Line receivers.
After we got through I just tuned around for a minute
and came across the signal.

I don't understand the 1 KHz shift in frequency each
day. However, if the signal is coming from a "spur"
in one of the GPS satellites anything is possible.
The fact that the signal strength is about the same
all over the country and considering that the
propagation on 10 meters just "isn't there" to cover
the whole "lower 48" (and into Canada and even
Alaska), it could be coming from a satellite that is
in a geostationary orbit.
