I think you'll find the tracer to be a useful piece of equipment.  Tracers 
are funny because some techs like them, some don't.  If your comfortable 
with it as I am, you'll find very handy.  I have two of the tube tracers and 
one of the solid state.  I personally would be more comfortable with the 
tube unit around high voltages.  I only use my solid state for transistor 
circuits.  I've paid $10 and I've paid $35 so look at the physical condition 
because you can fix anything internally.  Good luck
