Hi, George.
Well, the 6AU6 is only the buffer amp for the VFO. The VFO
itself is two FETs, an oscillator and a source follower, so I can't
figure that keeping the buffer hot would help VFO stability
much.
The factory specs on the VFO are 100Hz to warmup, and 100Hz
for a significant line voltage change.
Although, if this guy didn't know that, you may be right in
what he was trying to do.
