You can use the 6146 / 6146A / 8298 or the 6293 tubes
without problems. You can also rewire the heaters
("filaments") of the final amplifier tubes from series
to parallel and use the 6883 / 6883A / 8032 which are
the 12 volt equivalent of the 6146 / 6146A.

Use of the 6146B or any 6146W made after 1964 is a
very "iffy" proposition. Sometimes they work fine,
but, they can also cause problems.

For more information on the 6146 family of tubes go to
either of the websites listed at the end of this
message. The article that was published in Electric
Radio a couple of years ago, and in various other
publications since then, can be found on either site
as well as the illustrations that go with the
articles.

As for different manuals I do not know of any. There
may be some "errata" sheets but, as far as I know,
that would be the only thing that might change a
manual.

For 11 pin connectors go to

http://store.yahoo.com/triodeel/amphenol.html

among other sources.

By the way, stay away from Which Way, What Way, That
Way, etc. You know, the streets in the downtown
section of Lake Jackson!

Is there a particular construction/operation manual
serial number I should search for that matches the
production of my unit?

A sticker on the back indicates that 6146A's should
only be used. Is this a strict rule?

Lastly, is there somewhere other than ebay that sells
the 11-pin male and female power connectors for the
HP-23A power supply?
