Well...thanks for all the input and I especially enjoyed the OO QSL story.  
Yes, this radio is in bad shape, so modifying it to a pi-network output 
wouldn't be blasphemous, but I'll have to think about it some before I start this 
refurbishing project.  The one cap would have to be about 3 times the capacitance 
it currently is plus I'd have to add a loading cap.  How about just running 
through a balanced tuner of the pi-network verity?  Just been reading that 
"perhaps" harmonic attenuation can be as much as 30 dB.  The word "perhaps" 
bothered me.
