<< the most
distressing subject to me is when the buyer thinks that somehow the seller
should not get paid for the item through some escrow service or voiding a
credit card payment, and then thinks the seller has a further obligation to
make things "right">>

Hi George,

What the escrow or pay by credit card method does is to protect the buyer by
putting the pressure on the seller/shipper to make the claim and follow
through from his end. Many sellers do a horrible packing job, the item is damaged in
transit and the buyer is left with damaged goods and no way to make a claim.
The shipper has to originate the claim. If he is paid up front, he is sitting
there with his money and has no motivation to proceed any further. If he
makes the claim and wins, he gets his money back and then the buyer should return
the property to the carrier or the shipper after receiving his money from the
seller/ shipper. If he sees fit not to make a claim under the credit card or
escrow method, he gets nothing.
