[Heathkit] HR-10 parasitic oscillations

Has anybody on the list messed with a HR-10 receiver that has parasitic
oscillations occurring in the last IF stage? I have no idea if this receiver
ever worked correctly or not but if you turn the RF gain control all the way
up the set oscillates at the IF frequency. It's as if they intended it to
work like a Q-multiplier. Anybody remember anything about this? I have
checked all the wiring and all the parts values and reassembled the stage
but still, very high gain and oscillations.
