Let me state up front that I am now totally blind. I was blinded on the eve of
my eighteen birthday by a stranger who got stupid with a twelve gauge shotgun
while pheasant hunting and 'accidentally' shot me from sixty feet away. I was
standing in my own backyard at the time. This was October of 1964. So please do
not suggest that I go to X website and look at the photos, as it won't help me a
bit.
When I was fourteen or fifteen I got a general coverage receiver for Christmas.
I remember that it was gray, had a built in speaker that faced upwards (I
think), had a slide rule style dial, main tune and bandspread, antenna trimmer
and more. It seems to me that the texture of the rx was somehow unusual, perhaps
a material over the cabinet. For some reason, I think it was a wood instead of
metal cabinet. I may be totally wrong here! The back was open above the chassis
and the tubes were visible. I can not say if there ever was a back panel that
completely covered the rear or not, but there was not when I got the rx.
I think this was a Heathkit, I know for certain it was not a Hallicrafters. My
parents paid about $75 for it used.
Do any of you have any idea which general coverage RX this was?
Thank you for remembering -
